Building on success

We recently learned that JCCT's impact factor for 2022 was corrected from 3.81 to 5.17! This substantial change occurred because some article types were inappropriately designated as research contributions. The journal impact factor is derived by the ratio between the number of citations received in a given year for articles published and the total number of “citable items” published in that journal during the two preceding years. The controversy circles around the definition of “citable items” which considerably influences the impact factor as some contributions, e.g., case reports, typically receive fewer citations than reviews or original research articles.
